A range of hardened steel mandrels, available in a choice of short and long series working lengths, for general honing use and essential for honing abrasive and hard materials. Mandrels up to Ø6.22mm have a fully circular work head. Above this diameter the unique three-point work head design eliminates chatter and ensures rapid correction in errors of roundness.
A range of honing mandrels incorporating the unique three-point work head design and consisting of a permanent mandrel body fitted with a replaceable guide shoe.
When the shoe is worn out it is simply removed, and a new shoe fitted. Used for similar applications to the B type and for all holes above Ø25.4mm. Available in short, long, and extra-long series. If mandrels above Ø25.4mm are required for blind hole work this must be stated at the time of ordering.
A tubular honing mandrel designed for use with the 1651 collet adaptor. The entire mandrel body is hard chrome plated for increased life. These mandrels are NOT supplied with wedges, and these must be ordered separately. CCS mandrels are NOT suitable for blind hole work. Note: only "super abrasives" can be used on CCS type mandrels
A range of permanent type mandrel bodies incorporating the same design features as the HSK type and fitted with replaceable cast iron shoes that must be machined to the specific diameter to be honed. These mandrels are available in short, long, and extra-long series working lengths and are NOT suitable for blind hole work.
A range of hardened steel mandrels designed specifically for honing bores containing standard ISO keyway slots. Based on the HS type design but with two or more abrasive sticks mounted side by side on the stone holder giving an overall stone width of approximately twice that of the keyway. These mandrels are available in short series working length only and are NOT suitable for blind hole work.
The friction feed unit facilitates honing stone contraction and expansion whilst the stones are rotating in the bore, eliminating the need to halt the process to adjust honing pressure. Control of stone pressure provides improved accuracy and consistency of the honing process.
Driveshafts are available in a wide range of lengths for both friction feed and manually adjusted operation. Standard manual driveshafts have a hexdrive.
The three smaller honing heads use a twin cone expansion mechanism. These heads accommodate stone sets mounted directly to the head and are suitable for bore diameters of up to 68.3mm. The three larger hone heads use a rack and pinion expansion mechanism.
Unless otherwise ordered, standard stone sets will be supplied as follows:
Where bore irregularities, such as ovality need to be corrected, two stones and two guides should always be specified.
For smaller diameters, within the standard head range, stone sets are mounted directly onto the hone head. For standard head applications of greater than 92.25mm diameter and all major and giant head applications stone carriers are required. These reusable units take replaceable, plug-in stone sets, which are interchangeable to ensure that a small range of stones cover a wide variety of applications.
For bore diameters greater than 158.75mm, additional rigidity is provided to the honing head assembly by incorporating a stone support. The stone support steadies the stone carriers and stones to ensure consistent honing performance.
Where it is required to hone smaller diameters than 25.4mm and it is not possible to use a hand operated horizontal honing machine, e.g., where the component is too heavy or bulky to be held by hand or for honing bores in situ, the delapena CG100 adaptor may be used.
Available in one (short), two (standard) or three (long) stone length versions, and in either two stones and two guides (HD2) or four stones (HD4), this system will suit most applications.
Compatible with most brands of honing machines and replaces competitors' modular tooling systems.
The hone head fits directly onto the machine drive shaft and incorporates a universal joint and rotary expansion system. Available in 1, 2 or 3 stone length designs (101.6, 203.2 and 304.8mm).
Adaptors are available to fit to other makes of drive shafts.
Stone sets are available as either two stones and two guides (HD2) or four stones (HD4) and attached / removed from the carrier adaptor easily using the HD mounting tool. Stone platform houses 2 honing sticks.
Where bore irregularities, such as ovality need to be corrected, two stones and two guides should always be specified.
Super abrasive stone platforms are available with either single (SHD2) or double (SHD4) stone versions. delapena heavy duty stone sets can be used on delapena standard (1208) and major (1210) vertical hone heads.
Stone sets and guides are mounted onto the carriers. The carriers are mounted into the hone head and expanded / contracted via the rotary expansion system. Each carrier set cover a specified diameter range.
For bore diameters greater than 195mm, additional rigidity is provided to the honing head assembly by incorporating a carrier support. The carrier support steadies the stone carriers and stones to ensure consistent performance. As with the stone carriers, stone supports cover the same specific diameter range as the stone carriers.
To complement the delapena heavy duty tooling system, specially developed HD honing oil is available for heavy stock removal.
Drive shafts are available to special order according to customer specific requirements of length and connection type to fit other Honing machines such as Gehring and Sunnen.
Our approach to special tooling is not just to create the best tool for the job, to meet the brief, hit the budget and fulfil the order, but goes beyond that to understand exactly the solution required and to support our customers in satisfying that need. We work beyond the limits of tooling supply and readily share our expertise as specialist consultants to the engineering industry.
Our special tooling offering begins with modifications to standard tools that are available for our own machines. We also offer special tooling for other manufacturers’ machines. Not only to replace or improve upon special tooling in existence, but also to provide a solution for tooling challenges yet to be resolved.
“Quite simply, if you have a problem with a honing application that requires something innovative, we are the people to call. We will tool anything!”
